Worshipping

Services in the Chaplaincy broadly follow the patterns of the Church in Wales / Church of England. During term time we offer daily prayer for the global Church, the needs of the world, and the life of our University. Our worship is open to all.

Sunday

  • 11am     Holy Communion followed by a free [!] lunch. Our Sunday morning themes reflect both the patterns of the Church calendar and the academic year.

Music is an important part of our worship. This is coordinated by the Church Music Scholars, Garry Peel and Jason Walker. Garry and Jason work together in leading the Chaplaincy Singers. The Singers meet in the chapel for a rehearsal on Thursday evenings (6-7pm) and sing during the Sunday morning Communion service. For more information please email Garry and Jason on peelgarry@hotmail.com or jason10walker@hotmail.com

During part of our Sunday morning service we offer a simple Sunday School at the back of chapel for those children who are present. The Sunday School runs short and engaging activities based on the theme of the service.  All volunteers working with children in the Chaplaincy are appropriately trained and work within the guidelines of our Child Protection Policy.

Although most of the Sunday congregation are on limited student budgets, we take seriously our Christian calling to help those less fortunate than ourselves by making a retiring collection each Sunday morning. Each year we aim to collect for an international, national, and local charity - one each term. In the 2008-09 academic year we raised a total of £700.

Students help the Chaplain in many other ways on Sunday mornings: welcoming (coordinated by Joe Morris and Rachael Price), reading, leading prayers, and serving. The Sacristan, James Hayes, helps keep the chapel tidy and prepares for services.

  • 6.30pm  Evening Worship (4th Sunday in the month)

There is an Anglican service in Bangor every Sunday at 6.30pm. This migrates between different churches to allow congregations to experience a variety of worship styles and venues. On the first Sunday of the month this service is in St Mary's (Deiniol Road), on the third Sunday of the month at St David's (Caernarfon Road), and on the fourth Sunday of the month in the Chaplaincy. Sunday evening worship at the Chaplaincy is varied and often student-led: band praise, Taize music, High Mass.

Monday - Friday

  • 9am         Morning Worship

  • 5.30pm    Evening Worship

Some of these services are led by students and some by the Chaplain

Christian Staff Network

This is a group of Christian members of staff from across the University and from many different church backgrounds. It meets regularly in term time, often in the Chaplaincy, to bring before God the needs and pressures of University life, and to offer support for one another. More information from Dr Sarah Jackson: s.m.jackson@bangor.ac.uk

Quiet Space

The chapel is open 8am - 10pm as a place of calm and peace. There are numerous resources to help you think, pray and find comfort: Bibles, simple prayers, a votive stand to light candles, and a book to write your thoughts and feelings which will be offered to God during services. Please join us in praying for the needs of the University by using the University Prayer Cycle.
